Christ’s Hospital Choral Society
is a choir for adults associated with this famous school near Horsham, West Sussex. The choir was formed in 1988 so that members of staff and people from the wider community could sing a range of choral works. All voices are welcome – Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass – and no connection with the school is necessary.
We rehearse on a Thursday evening at Christ’s Hospital and three concerts are performed each year – although in 2010 a highly successful Community Christmas Concert was also staged in the Chapel.
Our year
The choir’s year starts in early September and we rehearse for a challenging concert which we perform in the first week of December in St. Mary’s Church, Horsham. Immediately after Christmas we rehearse for the Angus Ross Memorial Concert at which we join with the school choir and an orchestra generally to perform a major work. This concert takes place shortly before Easter.
For the summer term we usually perform shorter, lighter pieces at a concert close to midsummer’s day. This is always a memorable event as it is normally held at the school, sometimes preceded by a picnic in the quadrangle.
A departure from this in 2011 is that the choir are giving a concert performance of The Gondoliers as part of the Shipley Arts Festival.
